In one’s professional life, there are epochs that stand out, both for their intensity and their transformative potential. My journey with the Alliance for Decision Education epitomizes one such epoch, a defining chapter that has profoundly shaped my understanding of education, leadership, decision-making, and societal impact.

Beginning my tenure as a member of the Advisory Council, and subsequently taking on the roles of Director of Education and, later, Executive Director, I was privileged to witness and play a part in the metamorphic change of this remarkable institution.

In our collective pursuit, the Alliance underwent a seismic transformation — transitioning from a regional program provider to a national field builder championing the imperative of teaching decision skills. The organization, which blossomed from a team of five into a cadre of thirty, exemplifies the magic of shared purpose and relentless drive.

The milestones achieved, some of which I hold close to my heart, are a testament to the collaborative spirit of everyone involved. We elevated our annual fundraising from $300,000 to an impressive $8.5 million, echoing the trust and faith of our benefactors. The crystallization of the K-12 learning standards for Decision Education, the Decision Education Fellowship, the Decision Education Podcast, and the innovative GM Genius program are but a few markers of our passion-driven initiatives.

The enriched fabric of our Advisory Council, including three Nobel laureates and founders of decision sciences, the stature of our Board now adorned with leaders from varied domains, and the ambitious research agenda — all signify the import and public commitment to the cause of Decision Education.

Yet, as with every journey, there are junctures where paths diverge, where new avenues beckon. At this crossroads, I wish to extend a heartfelt note of gratitude. To every collaborator, supporter, educator, and visionary who has been a part of this journey: Your contributions have been invaluable. The essence of Decision Education, its potential to reshape lives, has been amplified because of your dedication.

As I look to the future, I remain ardently passionate about education, individual flourishing, and societal growth. While the settings might change, the commitment to fostering informed and insightful decision-makers remains unwavering. Those who envision synergies or collaborations, know that I remain open, enthusiastic, and eager to explore the myriad possibilities the future holds.

In closing, this reflection isn’t a conclusion but a celebration — a celebration of shared achievements, commitment, and belief in the power of education. To all who have been part of this odyssey, my deepest appreciation. Here’s to the shared memories, the challenges surmounted, and the brighter, wiser futures we endeavor to create.

Warm regards,

Joe
